WAFU Cup: Super Eagles Team B Defeat Ghana, Advance To Last Four

Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles yesterday, defeated hosts Ghana 2-0 in their last Group A game at the 2017 West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup of Nations in Cape Coast, to qualify for the semi-finals.

Anthony Okpotu scrambled in the first goal of the match in the 53rd minute, while Peter Eneji Moses scored the second goal three minutes later to seal the game for the Super Eagles even as Ghana fought back.

Okpotu and Moses emerged Man of the Match for their tantalizing performance and contribution to the Eagles team.

The Salisu Yusuf coached side needed to win to remain in the tournament. With the win Nigeria, placed second behind Ghana who have already qualified, finish top on six points in the group A standing.

In the group’s other game also played on Monday, Guinea and Mali both crashed out after playing out a 1-1 draw in Elmina.

The Super Eagles will meet the winner in group B. Niger Republic top the group with four points, while Senegal is on three points. Niger will play against Benin Republic while Senegal take on bottom placed Cote d’ Ivoire.
