We have discovered banks holding Nigeria’s stolen oil funds – Buhari

The president disclosed this in a meeting with some members of the United States Congress who paid him a visit at Aso Rock yesterday, he said the headway wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the international community.

He said to the US congressmen led by Rep. Darrel Issa:

“We are getting cooperation from the international community, including information on ships that take crude oil from Nigeria and change direction, or pour their contents into other ships mid-stream. Some monies were paid to individual accounts.

We are identifying the financial institutions and countries that are involved. I have been assured that when we get all our documents together, the United States and other countries will treat our case with sympathy.

President Buhari further told the Congressmen that his administration will be glad to have more of the Nigeria-united States Bi-National Commission meeting, that it could serve as a basis of strengthening their relationship as well a joint cooperation in the fight against insurgency.

This was after the leader of the congressmen Rep. Darrel had assured the President of the United States plan to support Nigeria in their fight against insurgency by providing necessary training and intelligence for the Nigerian military.

“We look forward to helping you in many ways to end the Boko Haram insurgency and the theft of crude oil in the Gulf of Guinea.”
