Wenger Finally Ends Mourinho Jinx As Arsenal Thump United

Arsene Wenger recorded his first ever competitive victory over Jose Mourinho after almost 13 years as Arsenal beat Manchester United 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Goals from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck were enough as the Gunners revived their hopes of a top-four finish and end United’s 25-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, which stretches back to October.

Xhaka’s well struck effort from 30 yards in the 54th minute deflected off Herrera’s back broke the deadlock after a very tight first half.

Welbeck headed home three minutes later to give the home side a two goal cushion to put United’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League on winning the Europa League.

In 12 previous Premier League games against old foe Mourinho, Wenger’s men had been unable to mastermind a victory, suffering five defeats and picking up seven draws.

Manchester United’s focus is on this Thursday’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Celta Vigo. Arsenal on the other hand can ramp up the pressure by beating Southampton on Wednesday night as they move closer to securing Champions League spot.
