What Wike Told PDP Delegates Ahead Of Presidential Convention

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has assured the national delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of adequate security as they prepare to elect a presidential flagbearer on Saturday in Port Harcourt.

Wike, in a series of tweets on his official Twitter account on Friday, welcomed the delegates to the garden city.

The governor said, “The good people of Rivers State are most delighted and honoured to play host to the distinguished National Delegates of our great party as we elect our Presidential flagbearer this weekend and collectively work towards rescuing our nation from the brink of collapse.

“As we gather for this all-important national convention, I assure all delegates of our great party of their security before, during and after the convention. Working with the security agencies and other stakeholders, we will ensure that your stay in Port Harcourt is memorable.

“Once again, I welcome all delegates, journalists, observers and other visitors to Rivers State, the Treasure Base of the Nation. While you are here, enjoy the peace, love, cuisine, heritage and hospitality of Rivers State and her people.

The convention will see one of the about 13 aspirants seeking to become the standard bearer of the PDP in the next year’s Presidential election emerge as winner.

The elected candidate will battle President Muhammadu Buhari who has been made the consensus presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the presidential election in February 2019.

The PDP aspirants include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, and Former Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Other aspirants vying for the Presidency under the PDP include two-time Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, former minister of education and two-term governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau, two-time governor of Kaduna state, Ahmed Makarfi, and former Sokoto state governor, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa.

Others include the current governor of Gombe state, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, former minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs from Kebbi state, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, former House of Representatives member, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, former governor of Plateau state, Jonah Jang, and former Senate president, Senator David Mark.
