WhatsApp hits 900 Million Users

WhatsApp messenger, bought by Facebook for $19 billion in 2014, used by people around the world to send messages, has now hit 900 million monthly active users worldwide.

This information was disclosed by the CEO of WhatsApp Jan Koum in a post on Facebook, who said the messenger application added about 100 million users in the past six months and has seen a growth rate of 50% in the past 12 months.

Founded in 2009, WhatsApp which started as a basic text-messaging app, has experienced consistent growth since it was acquired by Facebook last year, in 2014, it counted 600 million users which grew to 700 miilion in January 2015 and now has 900 million active users.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg congratulated the CEO of WhatsApp.

“Congrats to Jan, the WhatsApp team and whole community on reaching 900 million people!”

This is coming after Facebook announced it recorded over 1 billion Facebook usage in a day.
