Why Alibaba’s Wife, Mary, Was Suspended Indefinitely As ED By Heritage Bank

The Whistler has learnt that the embattled wife of ace comedian, Ali Baba, Mrs. Mary Akpobome, was suspended indefinitely without pay by the management of Heritage Bank over alleged acts of gross insubordination and actions inimical to the ethics of the bank.

Akpobome, a source told this newspaper, was a key player in the acquisition of the defunct Societe General Bank and eventual takeover of Enterprise Bank by Heritage Bank but has since felt she was yet to be properly compensated.

“I wonder why the management is hiding the fact that Mrs. Akpobome is on indefinite suspension from the bank without pay.

“The management took the decision when she started acting in a manner that bothered on gross insubordination to even the managing director, Ifie Sekibo, besides other Executive Directors like herself.

“It was further discovered she was authorising loans without due diligence, which the ethics of the bank frowns at,” the source said.

Some section of the media had claimed that Akpobome was singled out for insider abuse while others let off the hook, a position our source said is untrue.

According to the source, when the bank’s Managing Director, Sekibo, who has been away for a while over ill health was to proceed on his medical vacation, Akpobome had expected to be incharge in acting capacity owing to her “sacrifice” as she is alleged to always say for the bank.

Miffed by the development, the embattled ED started spinning stories in the media of “troubles in Heritage Bank,” the source claimed.
