Why Civil Servants Are Yet To Get October Salaries – FG

The federal government has offered explanations as to why civil servants were yet to be paid their salaries for the month of October.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, explained that the delay was due to the passage of the 2020 budget before negotiations on the new minimum wage and its consequential adjustment were concluded.

Yemi-Esan spoke in a statement issued by the director information at the office of the head of service, Olawunmi Ogunmosunle.

The head of service, however, promised that civil servants would get their salaries before the end of the week.

According to her, a contingency fund had been set aside in the 2020 budget to cover for adjustments that may arise from the increased minimum wage.

Yemi-Esan also noted that a committee had been set up to determine deficits in all Ministries, Extra- Ministerial Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The committee comprises representatives of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, the Budget Office and the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

“The shortfalls are to be paid from the lump sum already set aside in the budget for the minimum wage and its consequential adjustment.

“The Committee is expected to conclude its work by the end of this week so that salaries can be paid,” said the head of service.
