Why Ikpeazu Deserves Second Term – Abia Chieftain

A constitutional lawyer and frontline political leader in Abia State, Dr ACB Agbazuere has described as “unfair to equity and conscience” any move to stop the re-election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for a second term in 2019.

Dr Agbazuere, who is also a human rights activist, said Governor Ikpeazu’s performance in his first term should earn him a second term from his ticket from his party and from the Abia electorate.

In a statement issued by the lawyer, he called on all governorship aspirants in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to withdraw and support the re-election of Ikpeazu.

“A governor who was sworn in on Friday 29th May, 2015 and on Monday June 1, 2015 as his first official assignment flagged off seven road projects at Aba and on Tuesday 2nd June, 2015 also flagged off road projects at Umuahia, and has continued to build roads till today, deserve commendation,

“Over 70 roads have been constructed with drainage systems and street lights by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu so far and many more are ongoing. These include Aba Owerri Road, Nkporo road, MCC, Umuatako, Faulks Road, Chima Nwafor street, Seventh-day Adventist Avenue, Omni, Abiriba Ring Road, Ehere, Umuocham Road Aba, Umuehilegbu road, Umule Road, Ochefu Street Aba, Weeks Street Aba, Owerrinta Street Aba, Ukaegbu Road, Umuola Road, Umuobiakwa Ring Road.”

He said Governor Ikpeazu’s performance in other sectors has also been overwhelming.

“Governor Ikpeazu has also done well in other sectors. The Tenera Palm Nursery Farm at Ahiaba Umueze Osisioma, the Abia Mushroom Farm at Umuahia, Abia Rice Mill at Ofeme Umuahia, Construction of 165,000 Birds Capacity Poultry Processing Plant at Umuosu Nsulu in Isiala Ngwa North, The Dial-A-Doctor Tele health Initiative, Reconstruction of the 1st Abia Flyover at Osisioma,

“Reconstruction and regrassing of Enyimba Stadium Aba to International standard. Made in Aba and Abia products have now been accepted and are being greatly patronized nationally and internationally. All these and many more are courtesy of the ingenuity, hardwork and commitment of Governor Ikpeazu,” he emphasized.

The Abia leader added that Ikpeazu’s performance earned the state the “Most-friendly Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSME) State in Nigeria,”a recognition bestowed on the state by the Federal Government of Nigeria on August 2, 2018.

On political equity in the state, the constitutional lawyer argued that out of the three senatorial districts in the state, only Abia South (Where Ikpeazu comes from) has not served two terms at the Government House.

“I think equity and performance are the two pillars for which we should respect this position. On equity, out of the 3 (three) senatorial zones of Abia State, Aba North served two (2) terms through Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, Abia Central served two (2) terms through Chief T.A. Orji. It is therefore equitable and most appropriate that Abia South should also be allowed to serve their two terms,

“This genius thus deserves a second term to continue his good works. I therefore, urge all the affected people to heed to this clarion call and save their resources and sustain our unity.”
