Why Ulcer Patients Must Avoid Milk-Physician

For many years, people with peptic ulcers have been told to drink lots of milk, in the belief that it would soothe the stomach ache and help heal the ulcers.

But a general physician, Dr Peter Atangwho, has said milk only has a short term effect as it allows the patient to get momentary relieve.

“Milk may give you temporary relief. But the fats in milk can prompt your tummy to produce more acid which worsens your ulcer pain,” the physician said.

Atangwho, the Chief Executive Officer of TeleMed Online Clinic, advised that the intake of yoghurt will better help in the healing process.

“The calcium in milk can also relax your lower esophageal sphincter, causing more heartburn.

“The best immediate relief for your ulcer pain is antacid.”
