Some residents of Abuja who spoke to THE WHISTLER revealed their hair preferences to our reporter.

A youth corper, Daso Blessing said she “loves” wigs because they are “very convenient for someone who sweats a lot like me. “ Moreover, she said, a wig could easily be removed for a feel of fresh air.

An intern with a tech firm,Somto Nwoko, expressed similar sentiments. She preferred wigs to weaving or braids even though they make women look more beautiful. “We look better with weaving or on braids, but I can’t handle the stress that comes with making such hair styles,” she said.

An undergraduate, Marvelous ThankGod also prefers wig to other hair styles because “it is easy to carry; i carry it everywhere and anywhere. I also look very cute in it.”

Another undergraduate, Oyinkan Salvador also believes wigs are way better than any other hair style because “they save stress.” A medical doctor, Rebecca James prefers the wig because “ it is not time consuming.”

Several others also said they prefer wigs since it can be won on natural and relaxed hair and because, according to Dwine Precious (a businesswoman), “when we turn our weaves to wigs, it lasts longer for us and it’s better to manage. Why would I continue to buy different types of weaves all the time to make a particular hairstyle when we could just buy one weave and turn it into a wig with a suitable closure?”

However, there are still some women who prefer to carry their natural hair rather than wear the wig. Ihebinandu Joy, a university undergraduate, prefers her natural hair to weaving.

“I keep my natural hair so definitely I prefer natural hair to wig and weaving. Air penetrates properly with your natural hair and I look very attractive. I’ve gotten more compliments with my natural hair on than with wigs and weavings,” she said.

A nurse, Favour Onuh, shares same sentiments with Joy.” I hate wigs. I only use it when I have no choice. I prefer natural hair and its freedom.”
