The National Industrial Court sitting in Yenagoa, on Thursday, barred the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike from evicting the 13 sacked permanent secretaries from their official residences.

You will recall that eight of the 13 sacked permanent secretaries had on January 12, 2016 dragged Wike before the court to protest their compulsory retirement from the Rivers State Civil Service.

The presiding judge, Justice Agbadu Fishim, had adjourned the matter till Thursday, January 21, 2016 to hear the motion for an interlocutory injunction.

At the resumed hearing on Thursday, Justice Fishim, who expressed concerns over the fear of eviction, said accommodation was very important and capable of destabilising anybody.

He therefore, ordered the defendants, who included Wike, through their counsel, Mr. Frank Onyiri, not to evict the plaintiffs, and adjourned the case till April 12, 2016 for hearing.

Reacting to the development, counsel for the plaintiffs, Mr. Tuduru Ede said, “The counsel for the defendants has given an undertaking before the court that the defendants will not tamper with all the issues raised by the claimants in their cases against the defendants, pending the determination of the suit.

“The issues are that they (defendants) should not evict the claimants from their allocated premises. That they should not take the vehicles of the claimants from them and that they should not stop their salaries. These are the issues we presented before the court.”
