World Leaders Gather In Jerusalem Against Xenophobia, Hate 

World Leaders including those of Russia, Britain, the United States, France and Germany are gathered in Jerusalem to mark 75 years of the Jewish liberation from the Nazi regime.

The 5th world holocaust forum held on Thursday with the tagged “Remembering the holocaust: fighting antisemitism.”

Anti-Semitism connotes hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious or racial group.

French President, Emmanuel Macron lauded the international community for standing strong during the holocaust, but added that people across the world should be wary of new waves of anti-Semitism like xenophobia. 

“Can one have even imagined this happening nowadays? For us to be so united in remembrance?”

“This is not just history that one can read this way or another. No, there is truth and history with evidence. Let us not be confused between these things.”

 “After all that has passed, anti-Semitism and the scourge of anti-Semitism has returned, and with it, xenophobia and intolerance have also raised their ugly heads,” he said.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin said that countries must unite against all forms of hate.

“We mourn for all the victims of the Nazis, including six million Jews,

“We need to find the courage not just to speak about anti-Semitism but also to do everything in our power to protect Jews.”

Furthermore, the US Vice President, Mike Pence praised the Jewish ingenuity but added that the world must rise against sponsors of terrorism so as to make the earth a better place.

“The world can only marvel at the faith and resilience of the Jewish people. And I am proud to say that the American people have been with you every step of the way. And so will we remain.”

“In the same spirit [of Holocaust remembrance], we must also stand strong against the leading state purveyor of anti-Semitism,” he added.

The United Kingdom’s Prince Charles said at the event that “It is a particular honor, although one of the most solemn kind, to be here today on behalf of the United Kingdom, to remember all those lost in the Shoah.”

On his part, the Israeli Prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu called for a renewed commitment towards the protection of the Jewish race as well as a unified effort against the threats posed by Iran.

“I call on all governments to make any effort to confront Iran.

“The Jewish people have learned the lessons of the Holocaust: that we cannot take threats to annihilate us lightly; to confront threats when they are small; and above all, even though we greatly appreciate the help of our friends, to defend ourselves by ourselves,” he said.

The Nazi regime (1945) under Adolf Hitler led to the death and  murder of millions in Nazi concentration camps and extermination camps.
