A statement signed by AFBA Director of Media, Samuel Abasilim, which noted that the over-sight functions of the Nigeria National Assembly as contained in the country’s constitution was to ensure that organs of state conduct their affairs in line with their legal mandate added that any allegation of crimes against the EFCC or any of its officials should be reported to the Nigerian Police which it said has the constitutional role to investigate criminal acts.
Abasilim explained that the EFCC Act defined how the EFCC should be run and the process of meting out disciplinary measures against any erring officials.
According to him, “Any probe of the EFCC can only weaken the institution and bring the nation to disrepute including the Senate itself, which is largely perceived by the Nigerian public to be witch-hunting the EFCC as pay-back for its probe on some Senators.”

“We advise the Nigeria Senate to direct the petitioner to forward the petition to the Nigerian Police for proper and effective investigation being the institution that has the apparatus to investigate such crime.”
“The Nigeria Senate has not got the adequate machinery to investigate allegations of crime”‘ he said.
