You’re Not God To Determine Igbo Presidency, Ohanaeze Slams Buhari

The apex Igbo socio-political group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has told President Muhammadu Buhari that “the political future of Ndigbo” is in God’s hands and cannot be determined by any man.

The group said this following a statement credited to President Buhari that “2019 will make or mar the aspiration of the Igbo nation” as “South East will overtake others after 2019” if they give their support for the president’s re-election in the coming 2019 presidential election.

According to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, who represented President Buhari at a recent South East rally, “the presidency of Nigeria is negotiable and can only be done on the position of strength and the strength of the Igbo will be determined by 2019 support for Buhari. The choice is that of the Igbo nation. What happens in 2019 will determine the future of the region and you can bet on the support of Buhari.”

But reacting to the remarks, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mr Chuks Ibegbu, asked the Buhari administration to desist from threatening the South East with the 2023 presidential election just because it wants the region to support the president’s re-election bid.

“The political future of Ndigbo lies in God and not in any man. Nobody should play God over the political fate of Ndigbo,” said Ibegbu.
