Youths Burn Down Police Station After ‘SARS Operative’ Shoot Student

A police station in Iwo, Osun State, have been set ablaze by Irate youths after policemen suspected to be members of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad shot an undergraduate.

The student, Tunde Nofiu, was said to be spending holidays in the town, when the ugly incident occurred, the Punch reports.

Nofiu, who was on his way to Olupona, on Thursday evening, from Iwo, died on the spot, a situation which sparked outrage and protest across the town.

According to an eyewitness, the youths stormed the Commander around 7 a.m. and dislodged the policemen from their offices before setting the place ablaze.

“The youth dislodged the police officers, pulled down the fence of the station and set the offices ablaze.

“The irate youths brought out generators and other office equipment from the building and set them ablaze before finally setting the premises ablaze,” he said.

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, who confirmed the incident, said the command was on top of the situation.
