Youths From Rotimi Amaechi’s LG Demand Christmas Gifts From Oil Companies

Youths from Eligbam Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have imposed Christmas levies on companies operating in their area.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is from the same local government although a different community.

In a letter addressed to the companies, the youths demanded cows, rice, vegetable oil, tomatoes, onions and N200,000 thousand worth of cash to help them celebrate the Christmas and end of year in their community.

Part of the letter, signed by president of the group, Chinda Ovunda reads: “

“We, the working executives of the Eligbam Youth Movement use this opportunity to thank your management for the understanding and cordial relationship forged with the community in the year 2021.

“In line, with the event the event at the corner, we forward to you our letter for x-mas and the end of the year as we look forward to your response.

a. Eight (8) bags of rice

b. One cow for the community

c. Two (2) gallons of kings groundnut oil

d. Tomatoes and onions

e. Cash of N200,000″

THE WHISTLER gathered that the demand has become a tradition among youths in the area.

The youths, most of who are said to be jobless, have over the years developed the habit of demanding financial gratification from companies operating in their community.

Kindness Nero, an Indigene of the area, told THE WHISTLER that the youths of the area depend on the companies for survival.

He wondered why they wrote such a letter inspite of “the allocations and incentives” given to them by the companies.

“Why bother people who settle the community chiefs, elders and even employ them into their companies? It’s really mad.”

Ovunda Precious, also an Indigene of the area, decried the manner in which they disturb these companies.

He said, “It is really annoying when you see or hear some of this things coming from our people.

“You expect these people to give you all of
these lofty demands and still want them to develop our communities and attract development.”

He said a little investigation will show that some of the youths who wrote the letter are on the payroll of the companies.
