Yuletide: Gov Mbah Launches Free Transport Scheme For Enugu Indigenes

The government of Enugu State has unveiled a Free Christmas Transport Intervention Scheme for natives of the state returning for this year’s Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The scheme, it was gathered, is designed to support Enugu indigenes living outside the state to return home during this festive season.

A release by the state Ministry of Transportation said the initiative was part of the government’s “seasonal social support programmes, and seeks to ease the burden of rising transportation costs while promoting family reunification and cultural bonding during the festive period”.

The release said, “Under the scheme, free transportation will be provided to duly registered Enugu indigenes travelling from major cities across the country. The programme will be implemented in about 30 states, including Abuja, Lagos, Jos, Ibadan, Kaduna, Kano, Minna, Gombe, Ilorin, Sokoto, Jalingo, Bauchi, Nasarawa and Port Harcourt.”

The breakdown showed that beneficiaries are scheduled to arrive in Enugu between December 22 and 24, where they will be officially received at Holy Ghost Terminal 2 by representatives of the Enugu State government.

“Eligibility for the scheme is limited to bona fide Enugu indigenes who are properly registered with their respective Enugu State town unions in their states of residence. This requirement is to ensure transparency, accountability and effective coordination of the programme.

“The Free Christmas Transport Intervention Scheme reflects the Enugu State government’s commitment to the welfare, safety and well-being of its citizens, both within the state and in the diaspora,” according to the release.

It added that it was a part of the demonstration of Gov Peter Mbah’s dedication to people-focused governance and inclusive policies that respond to the needs of citizens, particularly during festive seasons.

The government, in the release, urged beneficiaries to cooperate with designated officials to ensure a successful execution of the programme.
