While the statement did not give any reason for her sack, Lungu however expressed his appreciation to the sacked minister on her services rendered to the government since her appointment in February 2018.

According to reports, the new finance minister has previously served in high profile positions both in government and the private sector.

Reports further said Ng’andu served as managing director of the Development Bank of Zambia, National Savings and Credit Bank and Director-General of the Zambia Investment Centre.

The finance minister has been accused of failing to manage the economy by stakeholders.

In the meantime, the Emerald and Semi-Precious Stones Mining Association of Zambia has thanked the president over the sack of the minister.

The association noted that the dropping of Mwanakatwe is a clear that the president means well for the country, as according to them, he means well for the country because he makes decisions in the best interest of the nation.

According to the President of the Association, Victor Kalesha, Mwanakatwe had failed in some areas in diligently performing effectively in her position at the ministry of finance.
