Zimbabwe Attacks Trump After Biden’s Certification, Says U.S. Has ‘No Moral Right’ To Dictate On Democracy

Zimbabwe has become the first African country to openly attack President Donald Trump after the United States Congress officially recognized Joe Biden as the next president of the U.S.

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa took to social media on Thursday afternoon to slam Trump for his administration’s alleged stifling of the southern African country and other less developed countries.

Mnangagwa accused the U.S. President of imposing “painful economic sanctions” on Zimbabwe over his alleged concerns about his country’s democracy.

The Zimbabwean leader said what transpired at the Capitol Building on Wednesday, where Trump’s supporters were said to have violently attacked the U.S. Congress building in a bid to stop Biden’s certification, was proof that “the U.S. has no moral right to punish another nation under the guise of upholding democracy.”

Mnangagwa further congratulated President-elect Biden over his affirmation as the next U.S. president, saying Zimbabwe was ready to mend fences with America under his administration.

He tweeted, “Last year, President Trump extended painful economic sanctions placed on Zimbabwe, citing concerns about Zimbabwe’s democracy.

“Yesterday’s events showed that the U.S. has no moral right to punish another nation under the guise of upholding democracy. These sanctions must end.

“I’d like to again congratulate President-elect @JoeBiden
on his confirmation as the 46th President of the United States.

“Zimbabwe is, as it always has been, ready to work together as friends and partners with the U.S for the benefit of both our peoples.”
