Zinedine Zidane Suddenly Quits As Real Madrid Coach

French football legend and Real Madrid coach, Zinedine Zidane has stepped down from his position as manager of the football team.

His resignation is coming just few days after winning a record-breaking hatrick of Champions League titles that earned the Los Blancos a 13th European title.

Zinedine Zidane who once played for Madrid, was appointed manager after the sack of Carlo Ancelotti in 2016 over poor run of form.

Zidane’s position was threatened following a season characterised by poor domestic outing which saw the Madrid club finish 3rd on the table, behind arch-rivals Barcelona and Athletico Madrid.

In a press conference announcing his resignation, he he hinted on his immediate plan, “I’m not going to coach another team right now. I’m not looking for another team.”

Some commenters opined that he would have been sacked, if the team had failed to win the champions league.

After Real Madrid Champions League Triumph over Liverpool, he was asked if he had decided his future going forward, to which he said “The most important thing is to take the job one day at a time, I don’t look at where I might be – only where I am and what I am doing now in the present and I want to finish this season.”

Although there were indications that he had already made up mind to leave midway through the season regardless of what the team achieved or did not.

Ahead of his team’s clash with Real Betis in february, he was pressed on the difficulties associated with managing a team like Real Madrid, “It’s extremely tiring, no doubt about it. And more so at a club like Real Madrid. Of course there will be a moment when there will be changes, but that applies to all of us – the players too. The job takes it out of you but more here than in other places”. He said.

We bet the football world wasn’t ready for “Zizou’s” announcement, but the coming weeks will filled with speculations on where he goes next.
