ABSU Will Become Nigeria’s Best State University – Pro-Chancellor
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu, Rt. Hon. Dr. Agwu U. Agwu, has assured that the institution will emerge as one of the best state universities in Nigeria under the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
Dr. Agwu gave the assurance while briefing journalists after the 159th Regular Meeting of the ABSU Governing Council held at the Umuahia Campus of the University.
He expressed optimism that ABSU would emerge as the number one state university in the country by 2026, considering the pace of infrastructural development currently being witnessed in the institution, courtesy of the Governor’s intervention.
“The vision of the present Governing Council is to oversee a university where knowledge in Science, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Social and Management Sciences, Humanities and the Arts, as well as entrepreneurial and vocational skills, are effectively harnessed to address the socio-economic challenges facing the nation,” he said.
The Pro-Chancellor further disclosed that the Council has successfully addressed several academic and administrative challenges that had previously affected the University, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to sustained collaboration with the Abia State Government in repositioning ABSU for greater heights.

Dr. Agwu also felicitated with staff and students of Abia State University on the Christmas and New Year celebrations, wishing them a joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
He urged the University community to remain committed to peace, excellence, and the collective advancement of the institution.
Recall that as part of activities for the 159th Regular Meeting of the Governing Council, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Rt. Hon. Dr. Agwu U. Agwu, on Wednesday, 17th December 2025, led other Council members to an interactive meeting with members of the University community at the Senate Chamber, as well as an inspection of ongoing projects across the University.
