Anambra Police Probe Viral Video Of Minor’s Alleged Cult Initiation

The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing a group of young boys conducting a cult initiation involving a minor.

The video, which has been circulating across social media platforms, depicts what appears to be an unlawful initiation ceremony believed to have occurred in one of the communities within the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the police had ordered specialised operatives from the anti-cultism squad, Juvenile Welfare Unit, and State Intelligence Department to verify the authenticity and location of the footage.

“The Command is working to identify the victim and ensure his safety and well-being, as well as arrest all individuals involved or complicit in the act,” Ikenga stated.

The police, according to the statement, described the act as “criminal, exploitative, and deeply offensive to public morals and child safety”, stressing that no form of child abuse, indoctrination, or forced initiation would be tolerated.

The Police Command also appealed to members of the public with credible information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
