Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has confirmed that British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, is conscious and responding well following his involvement in a car crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
THE WHISTLER reports that the tragic incident occurred on Monday around the Makun axis of the expressway in Ogun State.
Joshua was said to be travelling from Lagos to Sagamu alongside three other individuals when the vehicle conveying them rammed into a stationary truck.
Preliminary reports indicate that two male foreign nationals died on the spot as a result of the crash. Their remains have been deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.
Joshua and the driver of the vehicle were rescued by security operatives attached to his convoy and taken to a hospital in Lagos, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
In a statement issued on Monday night, Sanwo-Olu, speaking on behalf of the Lagos State Government and its people, expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased, praying that God grants them the strength to bear the painful loss.

After several clinical assessments, he said doctors have confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency medical intervention at this time.
The governor added that Joshua is conscious and relating well with members of his family.
“Anthony Joshua and one other passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos. Following several clinical assessments, doctors have confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency interventions at this time. A comprehensive medical team has been assembled and will continue to monitor them closely.
“I am informed that Anthony Joshua is conscious and relating well with his family,” he stated on Facebook.
Sanwo-Olu further revealed that the Lagos and Ogun State Governments are jointly monitoring the situation to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident have commenced.

The governor thanked members of the public for their concern and appealed for privacy for Joshua and his family during the difficult period.
