APC Governors Sideline Oyegun, Back Buhari

Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have thrown their weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue of elongation of tenure of the National Working Committee of the party.

President Buhari had at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting last month annulled the decision by the NEC to extend the tenure of the NWC led by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun till June 2019.

The President’s move came as a shock to the governors.

But shortly after their meeting on Wednesday, the 24 governors of the ruling party agreed to support the President.

“We consulted and all the 24 governors of the APC are in the same page with Mr. President that we are going to respect our party constitution, we are going to respect the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari, said.

“So, therefore, we collectively agreed that we will have congresses at all levels – local, state and national.”
