CDCFIB Sacks, Demotes 16 Immigration Officers

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved a range of disciplinary actions against 31 officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following a comprehensive review of misconduct cases handled by its Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee.

In a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi, and posted on its X handle, the Board stated that the review, which took place on July 11, 2025, resulted in the dismissal of eight officers for serious misconduct and violations of service regulations.

Five officers were also compulsorily retired, while another eight were demoted by one rank for various offences.

Additionally, five officers received written warnings, while appeals by two dismissed officers were rejected for lack of merit.

The Board, however, reinstated one officer following a successful appeal and exonerated two others who were found not guilty of the charges brought against them.

In a separate development, the Service confirmed the dismissal of two junior personnel Aliyu Usman (AII) and Chukwu Nancy Ngozi (CIA), for offences bordering on criminal conspiracy, theft, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping.

These disciplinary measures followed the conclusion of internal investigations on April 14 and September 4, 2025, respectively.

The statement emphasised that the actions were taken in line with the Service’s commitment to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism across all ranks.

Under the supervision of the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the CDCFIB, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, the Board reaffirmed that disciplinary measures would continue to be implemented without fear or favour and in strict compliance with extant rules and regulations.

The NIS assured the public that it remains committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct among its personnel as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public confidence in the Service.
