Danjuma Targets Federation Trophy Against Rivers Angels

Nasarawa Amazons coach Christopher Danjuma has set his sights on winning the President Federation Cup trophy against Rivers Angels.

The Lafia ladies will take on Rivers Angels in the final of the competition at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Saturday.

Rivers Angels are the defending champions of the competition after defeating Naija Ratels 1-0 in the final last year.

Danjuma is ready to make history for the state in the final.

A statement released by the club on Friday quoted the coach as saying, “One of the excitement at the end of the season is seeing your team present till the end to close the campaign on a positive note.

“The Federation Cup is a prestigious tournament where every team aspires to be at the final because it is a great galore.

“The feeling is great because we didn’t start the season well but we changed things, and we were spurred up to be competitive.

“We are hopeful of making the state proud after the game.”

In the men’s final, Kwara United will take on Abakaliki FC on the same day.

No club from Ebonyi State has ever gone this far in the President Federation Cup while the last time a club from Kwara State came close to winning the competition was in 1976 when Alyufsalam Rocks got to the final but were beaten 2-0 by Rangers International FC in the grand finale.

Kwara United head coach, Tunde Sanni says they are the underdogs of the competition because no one gave them a chance to get to the final.

He said: “We are the Surprise team of the FA Cup this year. We, as an old State, have waited for 49 years to get to this stage.

“Ironically, it is the same Rangers that we stopped in the semis before getting here now. So, we are on a mission. Our Continental ticket is waiting for us.”

Similarly, Abakaliki FC coach, Ifeanyi Onyedika, said his team is motivated to win the trophy.

He said: “This is a competition we have prepared to win for Ebonyi people. We have prepared so hard and dissipated our energies to ensure we are ready to perform on Saturday. It is left for Kwara United to take us for granted. It will be to their own peril. It is our desire to win the cup and take it home for our Governor.

The women’s President Federation Cup final will start by 1pm tomorrow at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos while the men’s final will kick off by 4pm.
