Davido Wins BET Best International Act Award

Nigerian pop star Davido has won the Best International Act at the 2018 BET Award.

The BET Awards, established by Black Entertainment Television to recognize the best in African American culture, maintains an international category for black music from outside the United States.

The “Assurance” singer won the award on Sunday, at an event which held at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

It was the first time any Nigerian will receive the BET award on the main stage.

Speaking while receiving the award, the 25-year-old urged more foreign stars to collaborate with Nigerians and Africans.

According to him, Africa as a continent “has been so blessed.”

“I’m telling you guys – come to Africa, eat the food, wear the clothes,” he told the audience full of African American A-list celebrities.

“Let’s collaborate, everybody. Let’s collaborate, man,” he said.

The pop star also used the opportunity to condole fellow Nigerian singer D’Banj, who lost his son on Sunday.

Other artists nominated for the BET international award included, Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage, itish rappers Stormzy, J Hus and Stefflon Don, French rappers Booba and Niska and Kinshasa-born singer Fally Ipupa.

Others are French-Congolese soul singer Dadju hip-hop star Cassper Nyovest and house music innovators Distruction Boyz from South Africa.
