DisCos Metered 187,000 New Electricity Customers In Two Months – NERC

Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos) metered more than 187,000 new electricity consumers in September and October 2025, according to the latest Metering Factsheet released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The Factsheet released on Friday shows that the DisCos are closing the country’s longstanding metering gap.

The report shows that 80,943 customers were metered in September, while October saw an even stronger performance with 106,822 new meters installed.

The report also shows a notable month-on-month increase that pushed the national metering rate from 55.37 per cent to 56.07 per cent.

During the period under review, the number of active electricity customers rose slightly from 12.03 million to 12.07 million, while the total number of metered customers increased from 6.66 million to 6.77 million.

It stated that under the period under review, Aba Power posted the most dramatic improvement, boosting its metering rate from 69.49 per cent in September to 78.20 per cent in October.

It noted that Eko and Ikeja DisCos maintained their positions as national leaders, each sustaining metering rates above 84 per cent.

Also, Abuja and Ibadan DisCos recorded consistent metering additions, contributing to the overall rise in national numbers.

However, several DisCos, including Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola, remain below the 50 per cent metering threshold.

“DisCo Performance: Strong improvement from Aba (69.49 per cent to 78.20 per cent ) and consistent gains from Abuja, Eko, Ikeja, and Ibadan; Eko and Ikeja remain the top performers with metering rates above 84 per cent.

“DisCos with metering rates below 50 per cent, including Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola, continue to meter new customers; however, accelerated rollout is still required to close the gap”, the report read.
