Fear Returns To Kano As Gunmen Snatch Five In Night Attack

Gunmen launched a fresh attack on Lakwaya town in the Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State on Sunday night, abducting five residents and plunging the community into renewed fear.

The attackers struck Zurin Mahauta village under the cover of darkness, according to accounts from local sources, triggering panic among residents as the assailants overpowered the area and fled with their victims.

Confirming the incident, the village head of Zurin Mahauta, Murtala Mai Unguwa, said the gunmen invaded the community at night and forcefully took away the victims to an unknown location.

He explained that residents promptly alerted security operatives, who responded immediately after receiving the distress call.

He added that security agencies had commenced efforts to track the abductors and secure the safe release of those taken.

The attack has heightened anxiety among residents, who say repeated incidents of violence have left them increasingly vulnerable.

Community members have called for a sustained security presence to deter further attacks and protect lives and property in the area.

Reacting to the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Army’s 3 Brigade, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, confirmed the abduction and said troops were actively working to rescue the victims.

“Only five were abducted and we are trying to get them back. Troops on the ground are doing their best to return them safely to their families,” he said.
