FHA Denies Demolition Claim, Alleges Land Grabbing In Gwarinpa

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has denied allegations that it wrongfully demolished a property and assaulted a female property owner in Gwarinpa, Abuja

It described the claims as misleading and an attempt to manipulate public opinion while the matter is already before a court.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Authority reacted while reacting to media reports, which alleged that FHA unlawfully demolished a property belonging to Tuluwu Integrated Properties Ltd and attacked its owner, Hajiya Sadiya.

According to the FHA, the dispute centres on an alleged illegal encroachment on its land located along 5th Avenue, 52 Road, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja.

“The true position is that Hajiya Sadiya, through Tuluwu Integrated Properties Ltd, illegally encroached on Federal Housing Authority land to the tune of about 6,000 square metres,” the Authority said.

It explained that the land in question, measuring about 16,000 square metres, was originally allocated by FHA to Savannah Suites Ltd, which later assigned the property to Tuluwu Integrated Properties Ltd.

“However, contrary to the terms of the assignment, Hajiya Sadiya went beyond the 16,000 square metres transferred to her and unlawfully laid claim to an additional 6,000 square metres, bringing her claim to about 22,000 square metres,” the statement said.

The Authority said its investigations, backed by drone imagery, showed that the extra land being claimed
was nonexistent and clearly formed part of FHA’s property.

“Even Savannah Suites Ltd, which assigned the land to her, clearly stated that what was transferred was 16,000 square metres and not 22,000 square metres,” FHA added.

FHA further alleged that attempts to resolve the matter amicably failed, claiming that Hajiya Sadiya allegedly issued threats and boasted of powerful connections.

“She vowed in one meeting to bring down the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Authority, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo,” the statement alleged.

The Authority said Hajiya Sadiya subsequently obtained an ex parte order from the High Court in Bwari on July 1, 2025, restraining FHA from accessing the land, after which she allegedly commenced development on the site without approval.

“As a law-abiding agency, FHA challenged the order, which was vacated by the same High Court in Bwari on November 5, 2025,” it said.

According to the FHA, its Development Control officers visited the site on Friday, December 12, 2025, to enforce compliance following the court ruling but were violently attacked.

“Hajiya Sadiya and her husband, Danjuma Mahmoud, brutally attacked our officers. Armed with a sharp object, she assaulted a female officer, Mrs Funmi Aliu, while carrying out her lawful duties, and with the help of her husband attempted to strangle her,” the Authority alleged.

It further claimed that she also assaulted police officers on duty at the site.

“She slapped one policeman and bit another. It took the intervention of security personnel to rescue the helpless officer and bring the situation under control,” the statement said.

The FHA said the incident was reported at the Gwarinpa Police Station, where Mr Mahmoud reportedly apologised to the Divisional Police Officer.

FHA, however, said it was determined to recover all its illegally occupied lands nationwide.

“Under the leadership of the Managing Director and Chief Executive, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, the Federal Housing Authority has declared war on all forms of land grabbing and illegal annexation of FHA lands across the country,” it said.

The Authority added that it had acquired a MAX 350 drone to aid in monitoring and recovering its properties.

“Hon. Ojo remains focused on salvaging all stolen FHA lands and will not be cowed by trial-by-media tactics, falsehoods or cheap blackmail,” the statement concluded.

The FHA urged members of the public to disregard what it described as melodramatic narratives surrounding the incident, insisting that due process and the rule of law would prevail.
