Fintiri Declares 24-Hour Curfew After Communal Clash In Adamawa LGA

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has declared a 24-hour curfew in Lamurde Local Government Area following a fresh outbreak of communal violence on Sunday evening.

The directive is contained in a statement issued on Monday by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor.

Fintiri ordered security agencies to swiftly deploy to the affected communities to restore peace and maintain order.

“The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening,” the statement read.

It added that security operatives have been instructed to move into the area and restore peace “without delay.”

The government urged residents to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies as efforts continue to prevent further escalation.

Following the unrest, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankwambo Morris, deployed additional armed operatives to the troubled communities.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police confirmed that violent attacks erupted in Lamurde on Sunday night.

“Adamawa State Police Command wishes to advise members of the public, particularly those within Lamurde LGA, to respectfully comply with such order and stay indoors in order to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” the statement said.

Nguroje added that more operational assets have been sent to monitor compliance and enforce the curfew “using all legal means,” in collaboration with sister security agencies.

He warned that the command will not allow miscreants or misguided elements to operate unchallenged, urging all officers deployed to Lamurde to conduct their operations strictly within the law.
