Fire Guts Clothing Warehouse In Lagos

A fire outbreak on Wednesday gutted a clothing warehouse at the Great Nigeria Insurance House, a commercial plaza located on Martins Street in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

The blaze, which reportedly started at about 5 p.m., affected sections of the high-rise building used largely for the storage and sale of clothing materials.

Preliminary findings indicated that the fire originated from an apartment on the fourth floor before rapidly spreading to other parts of the floor and escalating upwards to the fifth and sixth floors of the building.

Emergency responders were immediately mobilised to the scene, with firefighting operations still ongoing as of the time of filing this report. There were initial concerns over possible casualties; however, no deaths or injuries have been officially recorded.

The affected building is known to house several warehouses dealing in clothing materials, alongside a number of corporate offices and shops.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said it received a distress call at 4:41 p.m., with crews arriving at the scene by 4:53 p.m.

“Lagos State Fire & Rescue responded to a fire at Great Nigeria Insurance House, Martins St., Lagos Island. Call received 16:41hrs; crews arrived 16:53hrs. Fire affected up to 5th floor of a 25-storey building. No casualties. Firefighting ongoing,” the agency said on X.
