Mbeumo Scores As Manchester United Stun Man City In Carrick’s First Match

Manchester United recorded a stunning 2-0 win over Man City at Old Trafford on Saturday to kick off Michael Carrick’s reign on an impressive note.

Carrick was appointed as the club’s interim manager until the end of the season during the week, and the Englishman started his second stint with a huge victory.

The former Middlesbrough manager started with a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot in front of Senne Lammens.

Kobbie Mainoo returned to the lineup alongside Casemiro in the midfield while Bruno Fernandes, Patrick Dorgu, and Amad Diallo supported Bryan Mbeumo in attack.

Injury-ravaged Man City fielded an inexperienced backline with Abdukodir Khusanov pairing Max Alleyne in the heart of the defence, Rico Lewis, and Nathan Ake filled up the full back roles.

Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Antoine Semenyo, and Jerome Doku provided support for Erling Haaland.

The first half ended goalless but the Red Devils snatched the maximum points in the second half.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring with a calm finish after a stunning counter attacking move in the 64th minute.

Patrick Dorgu added the second goal in the 76th minute with an instinctive finish from a Cunha’s cross to make it 2-0.

Mason Mount thought he had scored the third goal in the 91st minute before his effort was ruled out for offside.

Manchester United held on to seal a deserved victory while the defeat was a dent on Man City’s Premier League title hopes.

The Red Devils have moved up to fourth on the Premier League log with 35 points from 22 games.

Man City have now failed to win their last four Premier League matches, they will go nine points behind Arsenal if the Gunners beat Nottingham Forest.

Up next for Manchester United is a trip to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal next Sunday while Man City will be back in Champions League action to face Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday.
