Hosts Morocco defeated Comoros 2-0 to kick off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign on Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The first half ended goalless with Morocco failing to turn their dominance into goals.

Diaz gave the hosts the lead 10 minutes into the second half from an assist by Noussair Mazraoui.

Ayoub El Kaabi scored a contender for goal of the tournament with a sublime acrobatic finish to make it 2-0 in the 74th minute.

Morocco have now extended their world record run of consecutive victories to 19, they will be back in action against Mali on Friday.

In the second group A match on Monday, Mali will slug it out with Zambia.

In Group B, Egypt will take on Zimbabwe at the Stade Adrar Stadium in Agadir, and South Africa will face Angola.
