Kevin Durant has agreed to a two-year, $90 million contract extension with the Houston Rockets ahead of the new National Basketball Association (NBA) season.
The deal also includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.
Durant has one season remaining on his current deal, and is set to earn $54.7 million in 2025-26. He now has a total of three years and $144.7 million on his contract.
He is now the highest earning player in the league at $598. 2 million, based on current and future salaries.
Durant has surpassed LeBron James, who has career earnings of $583.9 million.
He was eligible for a maximum extension worth around $120 million, he reportedly chose to take nearly $30 million less to help the team maintain salary cap flexibility.

The Rockets acquired Durant, the 2013-14 NBA MVP, from the Phoenix Suns in a seven-team trade.
Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists while shooting 52.7% from the field and 43.0% from 3-point range for the Suns last season.
He has appeared in 1,123 games with the Seattle SuperSonics/Oklahoma City Thunder (2007-16), Golden State Warriors (2016-19), Brooklyn Nets (2020-23) and Suns (2023-25).
Durant has won two NBA championships, four Olympic gold medals, an NBA Most Valuable Player Award, two NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Awards, two NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Awards, four NBA scoring titles, and the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.
He has been named to 11 All-NBA teams (including six First Teams) and selected 15 times as an NBA All-Star.

Durant will tip off the regular season for the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, October 21, against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Paycom Center, Oklahoma City.
