The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr Olusola Odumosu, has ordered the deployment of 4,500 personnel across the FCT ahead of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration.
The move, according to a statement signed by the FCT Command Public Relations Officer, DSC Monica Ojobi, is aimed at safeguarding lives, property, as well as Critical National Assets and Infrastructure before, during, and after the festivities.

Odumosu said the deployment cuts across specialised departments and units, including the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) unit.
He explained that operatives have been strategically stationed at vulnerable locations and soft targets such as shopping malls, recreational centres, prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, the City Gate, the Three Arms Zone, government buildings, and facilities housing critical assets.
To further strengthen security, undercover operatives have already been dispatched for covert operations and surveillance, while black spots, particularly uncompleted buildings known to harbour criminals, are also under watch to avert security breaches.
“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breaches. Ensure you deploy your personnel adequately,” Odumosu directed Area Commanders and Divisional Officers, stressing that security presence must be visible across all six Area Councils of the FCT.

He charged officers to maintain professionalism, avoid harassment of citizens, and work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
He assured residents that the Corps would provide a secure environment throughout the Independence period.
“While my personnel are ready to ensure a peaceful celebration, you also have a part to play by being vigilant and reporting suspicious movements, individuals or groups to the nearest security agency,” Odumosu urged.
He also warned criminals and vandals to steer clear of critical assets, noting that NSCDC covert operatives are strategically positioned across the FCT and will not hesitate to bring offenders to justice.
Odumosu, while wishing FCT residents a joyous 65th Independence Day, prayed for the peace and well-being of Nigeria, and urged citizens to continue to have faith in the country.
