Nigeria Secures Sixth Term On Global Aviation Security Board
Nigeria has been re-elected to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) public key directory (PKD) board for a sixth consecutive term.
A statement issued on Wednesday by the Nigeria Immigration Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, noted that the re-election took place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, during the 31st PKD Board Meeting held in Montreal, Canada, where Nigeria retained its seat among fifteen Board Members drawn from 107 participating States.
Akinlabi said Nigeria’s delegation to the meeting was led by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap. The delegation’s successful outing was attributed to Nigeria’s consistent contributions to the ICAO-PKD, its shared implementation experiences, and notable innovations in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), electronic Machine-Readable Travel Document (eMRTD) verification, and digital identity harmonisation.
Nigeria has been a member of the ICAO Public Key Directory since 2009 and has played a critical role in shaping the strategic development and modernisation of the platform.
The latest re-election, according to the Service, is a recognition of Nigeria’s technical expertise, regulatory compliance, and unwavering commitment to ICAO’s Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).
The ICAO-PKD is a critical global system that enables States to authenticate and verify the integrity of electronic travel documents, thereby enhancing border security, facilitating international travel, and combating identity fraud.

The Nigeria Immigration Service noted that the development further highlights its alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, particularly in meeting Nigeria’s international obligations and sustaining the country’s active participation in the global aviation and border management community.
The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of border security, advancing digital identity initiatives, and safeguarding the integrity of Nigerian travel documents issued to citizens and residents.
