The two opposing factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have set in motion parallel stakeholder engagements aimed at establishing control of the party’s leadership structure.
In the power tussle, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has outlined programmes for state congresses and a separate national convention starting this week.
On the other hand, the faction backed by the PDP Governors has also come up with counter moves aimed at neutralising the efforts of the rival faction.
The faction, which has Kabiru Turaki, SAN, as chairman, is mobilising state chapter chairmen and other critical organs loyal to it for a week-long activities.
Lined up for the various activities in the faction’s programme are members in the National Assembly,
PDP National Ex-Officio, forum of PDP former governors, forum of PDP former ministers, forum of former NWC members among others.
Going by its programme, the Turaki led National Working Committee (NWC) will be meeting with the listed groups on 10th December, 2025 during which it will present a Certificate of Return to the party’s candidate in the June, 20, 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede.

Also, according to the schedule, the NWC will on Tuesday, December 16th 2025, meet with former PDP governors, former ministers and former NWC members while the meeting with National Assembly members had been scheduled for Wednesday December 17th, 2025.
“The meetings are part of the consolidating efforts of the newly elected NWC to stabilise and chart a new course for the party flowing from the successful conduct of the just concluded 2025 elective National Convention of the party in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital,” a notice put out by the faction on Monday read.
As part of the its scheduled programme, the faction has appointed members of the Osun State Governorship Appeal Panel to consider appeals arising from the conduct of the Osun State PDP governorship election primary.
The panel, which is headed by the PDP factional National Chairman, Kabiru is scheduled to sit on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
The Osun state governorship election is slated to hold on August 8, 2026. Recall that the incumbent Osun governor, Ademola Adeleke opted out of the primary election and has since announced his exit from the PDP.

Reports indicate that he is in the process of finalising moves to join the Accord Party on the platform of which he hopes to seek re-election.
