The Ogun State Police Command has charged the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the fatal road accident that affected world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, to court.
In a statement on Friday, the police said the driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was arraigned before the Sagamu Magistrate’s Court. The case was subsequently adjourned to January 20, 2026.
The update was signed by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026 and the case has been adjourned to 20th January, 2026,” the statement read.
The accident, which occurred on Monday along the Makun axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, claimed the lives of two persons identified as Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. The victims were said to be members of Anthony Joshua’s training team.
According to reports, Joshua was travelling from Lagos to Sagamu alongside three other individuals when the SUV carrying them rammed into a stationary truck.

Preliminary reports indicated that the two foreign nationals died on the spot as a result of the impact. Their remains were deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.
Joshua and the driver were rescued by security operatives attached to his convoy and taken to a hospital for medical attention.
The police said the severely damaged Lexus SUV involved in the crash was evacuated to the Sagamu Motor Traffic Division (MTD) office.
