Senate Panel Clears Fani-Kayode, Omokri, Dambazau Others As Ambassador-Designates
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode; a former Interior Minister, Abdulrahman Dambazau; and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, among others, have been cleared for confirmation for ambassadorial posting.
They were on Thursday cleared by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs after a screening session.
However, their clearance is not final, as they still have to be confirmed by the Senate-in-session, involving the approval of the body of senators in a committee of the whole, possibly by next week.
Fani-Kayode and Dambazau had it smooth with the committee, having been previously screened and cleared for ministerial positions by the Senate at different points in the past.
Most of the nominees were simply asked to take a bow and go after introducing themselves, with the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele on hand to give them soft landing.
Bamidele explained that the “bow and go” tradition is reserved for “individuals with established and verifiable records of public service.”

Going by the tradition, individuals who had previously served as lawmakers either in the Senate or House of Representatives automatically enjoy the privilege.
According to Bamidele, the profiles and service history of such former public office holders and federal legislators, were already well known to the public.
