Seven Police Officers Face Trial For Extortion In Imo State

The Imo State Police Command has commenced formal disciplinary proceedings against seven police officers over allegations bordering on extortion, unprofessional conduct, and abuse of authority.

The affected officers are currently facing an Orderly Room Trial following their identification by complainants who reported acts of misconduct.

Their arrest and subsequent investigation paved the way for the initiation of internal disciplinary procedures as stipulated by the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

Those undergoing trial include, Inspector Eyo Udo of the Anti-Vice Unit; Inspector Peter Nweke of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS); Inspector Ita Asuquo of the Search and Flush Unit; Sergeant Chukwuka Ekwueme of the Anti-Vice Unit. Police Constables include Onuwa Samuel, Patchris David, and Amos Sunny, all attached to the Anti-Vice Unit.

The disciplinary action follows widespread public concern after a viral video surfaced, allegedly showing an extortion incident involving operatives deployed under a Joint Task Force operation at Seven-and-a-Half Junction, Obowo.

The footage reportedly captured the conduct of personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police Force alongside operatives of other sister security agencies.
