Super Eagles players have sympathised with Anthony Joshua following the death of his two friends in a crash in Makun, Ogun State, on Monday.
Joshua was involved in the crash, but he sustained minor injuries, and was taken to a hospital in Lagos for treatment.
However, he lost his close allies, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele in the crash.
Super Eagles talisman Victor Osimhen described the incident as devastating after the team’s 3-1 win over Uganda.
He said: “It’s devastating news. He’s been one of the huge celebrities that put Nigeria on the map. He’s done it for so many years. Something like this affected a lot of Nigerians. Condolences to the families of the deceased. It’s not a beautiful thing to lose a life.”
Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi, expressed his sympathy to Joshua, and wished him quick recovery.

He said: “Man, it was a difficult one. When we heard he lost his family, it was really sad. I hope he can recover from that. I wish him strength, and to his family and the families of the guys who died as well.”
Another Super Eagles star, Bright Osayi-Samuel, described the incident as tragic.
He said: “It wasn’t great, especially as it happened back home as well. Thankfully he [Joshua] was okay. It’s tragic to hear that two of his friends died. We just hope he gets better.”
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle has been discharged from the Duchess International Hospital, Lagos.
The spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that the driver has been discharged on Wednesday.

He said: “Anthony Joshua’s driver has been discharged from the hospital and he is currently giving his statement.”
However, Anthony Joshua is still in the hospital recovering and trying to process the tragedy according to Sky Sports reporter, Andy Scott.
He said: “AJ is still in hospital, under surveillance and recovering. I have reached out privately to their team. But at the moment it’s very difficult for everyone.
“With stories like this, social media is a blessing and a curse – there’s lots of details out there but also some false information.
“I’ll refrain from speculating other than saying Joshua is going to need a hell of a lot of time and space to process this physically and mentally.
“It’s very difficult to put into words or even try to imagine what he’s going through at the moment.”

In a related development, Adedamola Joshua, the uncle of Anthony Joshua’s father described the incident as shocking.
He said: “All the people are very close with him (Anthony Joshua) and he is very free among the people. So it was a great shock for us.”
Early investigations indicated that the vehicle experienced a tyre burst which may have occurred due to excessive speed and prompted a loss of control.
