Three members of a family have lost their lives, while four others sustained serious injuries in a tragic road accident at the Obiri Ikwerre Flyover in Rivers State.
The accident occurred on Thursday, January 1, as the family of seven was returning from a mosque crossover night service to their residence in Rumuekini, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area
The private vehicle conveying them reportedly rammed into a stationary sewage truck along the flyover.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victims, a family of Yoruba origin, were travelling in a private car driven by their first son, Hammed, popularly known as A.T.M, a fashion designer.
He was in the vehicle alongside his wife, children, younger brother, sister, and father.

Hammed, his brother Azeez, and his young daughter, who were seated in the front of the vehicle, were said to have died instantly due to the impact of the collision.
The remaining occupants — Hammed’s wife, son, father, and sister — sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to a hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The three deceased family members have since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
As at the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, had yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident.
