Two Kano Lawmakers Die Minutes Apart

Tragedy on Wednesday struck the Kano State House of Assembly when two serving lawmakers were reported dead within minutes of each other.

The lawmaker representing Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Sarki Daneji, died barely minutes after the news broke of the death of his colleague, Hon. Aminu Sa’adu, who represented Ungoggo Local Government Area.

The deaths sent shockwaves across the state’s political circle, given the close timing of the incidents and the prominence of the two legislators in the Kano State House of Assembly.

The confirmation of the death of Sarki Aliyu Daneji was made public by Sanusi Bature, spokesperson of Kano State Governor, who announced it via a post on his official Facebook page.

The Kano Assembly had earlier announced the death of the representing Ungogo Constituency, Alhaji Aminu Sa’adu Ungogo.

Ungogo, who was also the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, died on Wednesday while on active duty at the assembly’s complex.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr Kamaluddeen Shawai, in Kano on Wednesday.
According to him, the lawmaker died after a brief illness at the Kano State House of Assembly.

“He is survived by his wife and children,” Shawai said.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the assembly, Jibril Falgore, has condoled with the family of the deceased, the people of Ungogo Constituency and members of the house over the loss.

Falgore described the death as a huge and irreplaceable loss, noting that it came at a critical time when the people of Kano State needed the contributions of the late lawmaker most.
