UDUS Dominates NUGA Zone D Qualifiers

Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) has emerged as the top performer at the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) Zone D preliminary competitions, securing qualification in several major sporting categories.

The institution excelled in football, female volleyball, boxing, handball, athletics, swimming, and cricket, earning a strong presence at the forthcoming national finals scheduled to take place at the University of Jos from November 5 to 16.

In a thrilling football final held at the Giginya Memorial Stadium on Sunday UDUS triumphed over Sokoto State University (SSU) with a decisive 2–0 victory, thanks to goals from Jeremiah Samuel and Danjuma Bawa.

The match capped off an impressive series of performances that showcased the university’s growing strength in inter-varsity sports.

Speaking shortly after the qualifiers, UDUS Head Coach, Jacob Olubayo Atunwa, attributed the success to the dedication of the athletes and the support of the university management.

“Now that the qualifiers have ended, we will use the remaining period at our disposal to intensify training for the games proper, I would like to appreciate the school management for providing an enabling atmosphere for sports participation in the university, and also give kudos to the athletes who will fly the UDUS flag at the NUGA Games in Jos.”
