Marc Guehi has opened up on the reasons behind his decision to join Manchester City from Crystal Palace ahead of other top clubs.
The England defender completed his move to the Etihad on Monday after signing a five-and-a-half-year contract.
He was close to a move to Liverpool in the summer before the deal broke down in the last-minute.
He was linked with Europe’s top clubs but he has now revealed that the lure of personal improvement led him to join Man City.
Guehi said: “First and foremost, it’s such an honour, such a big club to come and play for.

“For me, I have always just been obsessed with getting better and wanting to improve and that’s something I am constantly striving for and this is the perfect place for me to do that.
“I have heard so much about the club and the fans, the players speak for themselves, the manager. It’s definitely the right environment for me to improve and just get better.
“Hopefully I can bring what I have to the table to help every single person here too.”
Guéhi said he is focused on helping the club to win trophies in the future.
He said: “[It’s been] Absolute domination to be honest and it’s been great to see where the club has come from.

“The growth and continued growth which the club wants to go for and strive for which is amazing. I am someone who just wants to come in and help and do his part and see how far the club can continue to grow.
“It’s something that other people have picked up on. It’s nothing I’d necessarily say I have or believe that I have, to be honest. I am just trying to be myself.
“It’s something that since I have had the opportunity to captain those sides, I have to tried to improve on it and really focus and hone in on those leadership skills.
“It’s something hopefully with this squad I can improve on and look at the other leaders in the team as well.”
He led Crystal Palace to FA Cup, and Community Shield glory during his five-year stay at Selhurst Park, where he made 188 appearances for the club.
Guehi ranks inside the top 10 among Premier League centre-backs for clean sheets, duels won, aerial duels won and line-breaking passes. This season he is in the top 10 for interceptions, recoveries and duel success.

Guardiola’s men have now signed Antoine Semenyo, and Guehi to beef up the team ahead of the second half of the season.
Guehi is expected to make his debut for Man City against Bodo Glimt in the Champions League on Tuesday.
