The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has extended felicitations to residents of the nation’s capital on the occasion of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, urging them to uphold the values of unity, peace, and patriotism as the nation marks the historic event.

Speaking on Wednesday, the Minister described the anniversary as “a special occasion when we pay tribute to our founding fathers who laboured dauntlessly to birth a formidable country which today stands tall in the comity of nations.”

He noted that the day also serves as a reminder of the nation’s diversity and brotherhood, woven into a collective strength that must be preserved.

“All hands must be on deck to ensure that the labour of the nation’s founding fathers is not in vain. The Federal Capital Territory remains Nigeria’s symbol of unity and nationhood, hence, we must continue to embody the faith that we are greater together,” the Minister said.

Wike called for sober reflection and stock-taking, adding that it was the only way to renew hope for a better future for both the FCT and Nigeria.

He expressed appreciation to residents for their support of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on economic growth, national security, food security, sustainable development, and infrastructure.

“No city can be said to be a city without a good network of roads, hence our focus on road construction. Other sectors are receiving due attention as well,” he noted.

The Minister commended FCT residents for sustaining peace and harmony, and described the Territory as one of the most peaceful places in the country.

He attributed this to effective security measures and the residents’ zero tolerance for insecurity.

On the February 2026 area council elections, he urged residents to campaign and vote peacefully for leaders who demonstrate vision and capacity to bring development to the people.
