22 Bag 1st Class Honours As Enugu Private Varsity Graduates 660 Students
Twenty-two students of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, weekend, bagged first class honours.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Rev Prof Christian Anieke, stated this during the 13th convocation of the institution. The VC also disclosed that the overall best graduating student of the institution is Ms Nnenna Azubuike of Psychology Department.
He said the university had since its inception in 2013 produced 4,431 graduates “who are in different parts of the world spreading the sweet aroma of GO University values of hard work, spirituality and dialogue”.
Quoting him, “GO-Uni is going higher in our college of medicine. In the Second MBSS examination, our first set of medical students set a record with nine distinctions in Anatomy and many distinctions in other areas.
“We are among private universities that have teaching hospitals. Our hospital has 200 beds, x-ray machines, CT- scans, modern ultrasound machines and a dialysis centre. Our intensive care unit will be ready soon.”

He said the university had since its inception won many laurels, including the Winner of Nigerian Debate Championship in 2024, Abuja City Journal National Essay 2025, and the Chartered Institute of Personnel South East Regional Quiz.
The Governor of Enugu state, Dr Peter Mbah, represented by his Deputy, Barr Ifeanyi Ossai, said the ceremony meant that the graduates were found worthy both in character and learning. He commended the management of the institution for maintaining excellence in all ramifications. Mbah assured the university of continuous support of the Enugu State state government.
The Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Most Rev Dr Callistus Onaga, thanked the university for a consistent celebration of convocation ceremonies since 2019.
He announced that the university had secured accreditation for the College of Medicine granted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) examinations.
In his words, “Approval has been granted for the Bachelor of Nursing Science from the National Universities Commission (NUC). This university now has a total of 89 programmes comprising 43 undergraduate programmes and 46 postgraduate programmes, including PhD programmes. The expansion of infrastructure in the permanent site is speedy and consistent.”

Bishop Onaga advised the graduates to adhere to the discipline and decorum that they imbibed in the university.
The Chancellor of the University, His Grace, Most Rev Dr Ignatius Kiagama, lamented the high rate of unemployment in the country. He said it pained him “when young graduates approach him for jobs”, and called for instilling of entrepreneurial skills in students.
