Anambra Awards N16.7bn Contracts For Roads, Power

The Anambra State Government has approved contracts valued at about N16.7bn for road, electricity and other infrastructure projects across the state.

The approvals were granted during the first Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting of 2026, held on Tuesday, and contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor.

Mefor said the contracts form part of the state government’s ongoing infrastructure programme and were approved alongside other policy decisions taken by the council.

He also disclosed that the government, through the Ministry of Environment and the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), has commenced enforcement of road setback standards on newly constructed dual carriageways across the state.

According to him, the approved setback limits are 1.5 metres in built-up areas and three metres in non-built-up areas, measured from drainage lines.

He said the policy applies to both motorised and non-motorised corridors and is aligned with global best practices, including provisions for pedestrian walkways.

Mefor said the council also reviewed the security situation in the state and resolved to sustain collaboration among security agencies.

He cited the recent donation of 30 Hilux vehicles to the Anambra State Police Command as part of efforts to strengthen security operations.

He added that ANSEC approved the establishment of committees to pursue further urban renewal initiatives in Nnewi and Nnobi, in line with the administration’s urban regeneration policy.

On cultural activities, the commissioner said the council resolved that the Christmas and New Year celebrations, branded “Onwa Dezemba,” would become an annual programme.

Providing details of the approved projects, Mefor said the council authorised the release of N15,956,407,246.25 for the construction and dualisation of the 33–Nsugbe–Aguleri Road, including a one-span bridge, awarded to Ferotex Construction Company Ltd.

The government also awarded N56,386,718.69 for the supply and installation of a 500 kVA, 33/0.415 kV transformer at Irueyim Community, Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area, awarded to Kennolly Enterprises.

The sum of N159,599,775.14 was awarded to Vigeo-Dome Ltd, for the supply and installation of solar streetlights along Oye Market Road, Isuofia.

Also, a total of N497,033,367.38 was awarded for the reclamation, rechannelisation and remediation of a gully erosion site at Umugama-Ire Village, Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area, awarded to P & K International Ltd.

Mefor said the 33–Nsugbe–Aguleri dual carriageway project is expected to ease traffic pressure around Onitsha and Nkwelle corridors and further integrate the Anambra Beltway road network.

He further noted that the council also mandated relevant agencies to ensure compliance with environmental and planning standards during project execution.
