Arsenal Defeat Chelsea In Carabao Cup Semi-Final

Arsenal earned a 3-2 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Both sides failed a strong team with Liam Rosenior handing Robert Sanchez a spot while Wesley Fofana, Trevor Chalobah, Marc Cucurella, and Josh Acheampong completed the cast at the back.

Enzo Fernandez, João Pedro, and Andrey Santos took their places in the midfield, Estevao, Pedro Neto were tasked with providing ammunition for Marc Guiu.

Chelsea missed the likes of Cole Palmer, Reece James, and Moises Caicedo.

The Gunners also had the likes of Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, Victor Gyokeres, Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Martin Odegaard in their lineup with Kepa Arrizabalaga replacing David Raya.

Mikel Arteta’s men enjoyed a bright start as Ben White opened the scoring after Robert Sanchez fumbled in Odegaard’s corner in the seventh minute.

He also assisted Victor Gyokeres for the second goal four minutes after the restart to make it 2-0.

Substitute Alejandro Garnacho reduced the deficit for Chelsea just before the hour mark.

Martin Zubimendi made it 3-1, finishing off a Gyokeres pass.

Sanchez produced an impressive save to deny Mikel Merino before Garnacho reduced the deficit, making it 3-2 after Arsenal failed to deal with a corner.

Arsenal held on to seal a vital victory ahead of the second leg on February 3rd at the Emirates Stadium.

Manchester City earned a 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the first semi-final on Tuesday thanks to goals from Antoine Semenyo, and Rayan Cherki.

The Gunners will be in Premier League action against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.
